A Guide To Being A Stylish Wedding Guest | Men’s Fashion

When it comes to fashion guides, there are thousands for women covering almost every topic you can think of. This makes it difficult for males to find fashion directions out there even though they have a world of questions about what to wear for important events!

It is the season of weddings (like whenever is it not the season of weddings? LOL), and whether you’re just being dragged as a plus one or not, you’re most likely going to be invited to at least one wedding. Being a wedding guest can be very stressful. You have to shop for clothes and gift, RSVP on time, maybe find a date, try not to hustle for food and drinks. Whew!

However, you have to remember that the most important thing when shopping for a wedding is that you want to look cool and stylish, without being a distraction. If you’re a guy trying to figure out what to wear to a wedding, fret no more as we can help you cover the basics.

Know the dress code

You surely do not want to appear at a wedding wearing green when the dress code specifically stated black. If the dress code says black tie you should wear a black bow tie, white shirt and black suit – no other colour of suit is acceptable. If there is no dress code, be sure to go with something traditional and formal.

Wear a suit

This is the number one rule you should never forget. You can always ditch your tie during the reception but you can’t magic up a tie when you’re the one who’s under-dressed. As a man, you actually have it easy – because you can wear a suit. You can even wear the same suit, and switch out your shirt, tie and shoes as needed to every wedding you attend. Unless you’re wearing a tuxedo, don’t wear a black suit. They aren’t for weddings. Grey or navy is going to give you the most versatility.

Denim is a no-no

It is not OK to wear denim to a wedding except the dress-code specifically states denim or it is a coal miner’s themed wedding. Even if the dress code said casual, that does not mean you can wear jeans and a t-shirt. Interpret it as not having to wear a suit.

Accessorize

I cannot overstate the importance of accessories to any outfit. Invest in a nice pair of cuff links, your pocket kerchief should be eye-catching and your socks should be popping! Remember to do everything in moderation as too many eye-catching accessories will make you look like the eccentric musician hired for live entertainment. Choose the right accessories as the accessories you choose can potentially make or break your outfit.
